The
Story of Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow bridge. When
an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills
for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends
are warm and comfortable. All the animals who have been ill
and old are restored to health and vigour, those who were hurt
or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing:
they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent;
the eager body quivers. Suddenly it begins to break away from
the group, flying over the green grass, strong legs carrying
him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and
your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous
reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon
your face, your hands caress the beloved head and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so lon gone from your
life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the rainbow
bridge together.

Our Spook

Spook
was our first Border Collie, he was red and white. A little
too white for some peoples liking, he only had red ears and
a red spot on the top of his head, but we thought he was just
perfect. He also had the most beautiful blue eyes. It didn't
take us long to think of a name for him, 'Spook' just seemed
to be the most fitting name for our little white pup. |
Spook
was so intelligent, he would pick things up really quick and
was always willing to learn.
I remember one day I received a phone call from my friend
Grace (who lives at the other end of my street), she told
me Spook was in her kitchen eating her cats food. Spook had
sneaked out of the house without me knowing. HOW? I'd left
him in the back garden........He had opened the backdoor and
got into the kitchen, then opened the kitchen door and then
our front door. A short walk up the street, where he opened
Pete and Grace's front door, then the kitchen door and proceeded
to eat the cats food. (Spook had a bit of a dislike to cats)
How I never heard him I will never know........To put a stop
to his door opening adventures, we fitted a door knob to our
kitchen door......Did that stop him? NO! He learned to twist
the knob and pull the door open. There was just no stopping
him, if he wanted on the other side of a door. |

One
of Spooks favorite games was football, he would push the ball with
his nose and his paws. He also loved to run after sticks, balls or
a frisbee, but under no circumstances would he jump to catch them.
That would be wasting just too much energy.
Water was about the only thing Spook hated, he would paddle if we
went to the beach, but there was no way this dog was going to swim
and get his back wet. He didn't like getting sprayed with the hose
and he definitely didn't like a bath.

We
had Spook for nearly a year when we decided to get him a friend.
We were lucky to find that Spook's sister, Meg, had just had a litter
and that is when Buzz joined our family. Spook and Buzz would play
for hours together, they were the best of friends. Spook taught
Buzz everything a good dog should know.
Sadly, Spook fell ill and we
had to make the heart wrenching decision to have him put to sleep.
A decision that we know was for the best, but that didn't make it
any easier. We all miss him terribly and he will never be forgotten,
he was so special to our family.
Spook has a memorial stone in our garden. It's our Celtic Standing
Stone (the Spooky Stone). It has Spook's name in Gaelic on it (Tannasg)
and a Celtic knot design. We have also planted snowdrops round it,
so in the the spring when they flower, we remember just how white
our beloved Spook was. |
